A volcano has erupted on the remote island of Suwanosejima in southwestern Japan. No damage was detected from the eruption, public broadcaster NHK reported. The government subsequently declared a level three of five volcanic alert for Suwanosejima, restricting entry to dangerous areas surrounding the volcano.
