Belgium reported an outbreak of bird flu on a farm near the French border

Belgium has reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, at a poultry farm in the northwestern part of the country, the World Organisation for Animal Health said on Monday. The outbreak, which would be the first of the season, was discovered in Dixmude, near France. It killed 95 birds and led to the slaughter of the rest of the 20,100-head flock.
