Persistent rain, hail and winds of near-hurricane force have hit southern China, forcing the evacuation of an entire town of more than 1,700 people in Guangdong province. Buses and helicopters ferried all residents of Jiangwan township to safety as a new wave of flooding began, the reports said, citing local authorities.
