China opens Antarctic station south of Australia and New Zealand
China has opened its research station in the Ross Sea, the official Xinhua news agency reported, marking the first time China has started work at the outpost in a part of Antarctica south of Australia and New Zealand. Resembling a crucifix such as the constellation of the Cross or Southern Cross, the Qinling station will be staffed year-round with facilities large enough to accommodate up to 80 people during the summer months.
