Conductor Gergiev appointed director of Russian Bolshoi
Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, shunned by Western concert halls since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has been appointed director of Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. With this appointment, Gergiev takes the helm of Russia’s two most important opera and ballet theatres, as he also directs the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
