Coral reefs threatened by algal blooms after Rubimar flooding in the Red Sea
When the Rubimar sank in the Red Sea after an attack by the Houthis, the ship sank carrying 21,000 tonnes of fertiliser, which could trigger massive algal blooms that can create “dead zones” for marine life and starve coral.
