Brazil fines meatpackers $64 million for buying cattle from deforested Amazon forests
Brazil’s environmental agency IBAMA has imposed R$365 million (US$64 million) in fines on cattle ranches and meatpacking companies, including the world’s largest, JBS SA, for raising or buying cattle on illegally logged land in the Amazon.
