King becomes the first female athlete to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal

Billie Jean King has been awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the United States Tennis Association announced Friday, becoming the first female athlete to be honoured with the award. President Joe Biden signed the bill Thursday, honouring King’s pioneering contributions both on and off the court.
