Gauff’s hopes of reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time were brutally dashed by a 6-4 6-3 thrashing at the hands of Emma Navarro. When the draw paired Gauff with compatriot Navarro in the fourth round, it seemed almost a foregone conclusion which player would emerge victorious.
