Wolves to lose their ‘strictly protected’ status in Europe
Wolves in Europe will be less protected from hunting from 2025, after most European countries accepted a proposal to downgrade their status due to their growing numbers and their impact on agriculture and livestock. From 7 March, the status of wolves will be downgraded from ‘strictly protected’ to ‘protected’ under the Bern Convention.
