EU agrees tougher penalties for environmental offences
The European Union on Thursday agreed tougher penalties for environmental offences such as importing invasive species and court-caused pollution. Under the new agreement, offences that cause deaths will be punishable by 10 years in prison and firms face fines of 3 or 5 per cent of their annual global turnover.
