In Chile, lithium mining generates discussions

A new study links the decline of flamingos in Atacama to water extracted by mining companies to pump lithium-filled brine. This metal is used to make batteries for mobile phones, laptops and electric vehicles. However, the miners maintain that their operations do not affect flamingo herds and say the studies are based on unreliable data.
