Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Don Carlo was performed at the traditional opening gala of the new season at La Scala in Milan. Based on a work by German writer Friedrich Schiller, the opera tells the story of Philip II, King of Spain in the 16th century, and his son Don Carlo, who want to marry the same woman: Isabella of Valois.
