Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed a decree transferring responsibility for lithium reserves to the energy ministry, after nationalising lithium deposits in April 2022. During an event in Sonora, López Obrador signed the decree ordering the energy ministry to “carry out the necessary actions to carry out the nationalisation process”.
