Mexico released an “extraordinary” amount of methane from a gas pipeline running through the northern border state of Durango in 2019, a study has found. Methane, a potent greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere and warms the planet much faster than carbon dioxide in the short term, is considered a major threat to the climate.
