Scorching heat is expected in the western and southeastern U.S. over the weekend

Dangerously hot weather will prevail for the remainder of the 4th of July weekend across much of the US west coast, southeast and mid-Atlantic coasts, forecasters said Friday, as California firefighters battle one of the first major wildfires of the season.
