Shanghai has begun a two-stage lockdown of its 26 million residents by closing bridges and tunnels and restricting highway traffic in a bid to contain the rise in COVID-19 cases. The sudden lockdown will split the city in two roughly along the Huangpu River for nine days to allow “stepped” testing.
