Syrian rebels topple President Assad
Syrian rebels declared they had overthrown President Bashar al-Assad after seizing control of Damascus on Sunday, forcing him to flee and ending decades of autocratic rule by his family after more than 13 years of civil war. Top rebel commander Abu Mohammed al-Golani said there was no room to back down. ‘The future is ours,’ he said in a statement on Syrian state television.
