UN declares ‘red alert’ as world is set to break heatwave records in 2023

All major global climate records were broken last year and 2024 could be even worse, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) said on Tuesday, with its chief expressing particular concern about ocean warmth and shrinking sea ice.
