US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention confirms H5N1 avian flu in a child in California
The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday confirmed the country’s first case of H5N1 bird flu infection in a child who had mild symptoms and is recovering. The California Department of Public Health reported the case Tuesday but said there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission. The child’s family members have tested negative.
