The US Department of Justice has filed a complaint challenging a law in Alabama that criminalizes some gender-based treatment of transgender youth. Earlier this month, the Republican governor of Alabama signed into law a bill that makes it a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison to provide voluntary medical treatment, including hormone therapy, to a minor.
