Volcanic eruption in Hawaii threatens Big Island’s main transportation route

Lava flowing from Mauna Loa in Hawaii, which is the largest active volcano in the world and erupted this week, is approaching the Big Island’s main thoroughfare. The USGS Hawaii Volcano Observatory said the main front of the lava flow is 5.2 km from the Daniel K. Inoue Highway and could reach it in a week.
