Bukele on course for a landslide election victory in El Salvador

In less than five years, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has gone from a country infamous for its history of assassinations and gangs to a nation with one of the lowest homicide rates in the Americas. Under his rule, more than 2% of the adult population is in jail and several constitutional rights have been shelved, leading his critics to label him a modern-day autocrat.
