The British economy entered a shallow recession last year, official figures confirmed, leaving Prime Minister Rishi Sunak facing the challenge of reassuring voters that the economy is safe ahead of an election scheduled for the end of the year. Gross domestic product contracted 0.1% in the third quarter and 0.3% in the fourth quarter.
